Pets Not Property

What you can do.

Every Dick and Jane complains about a particular law that they don’t agree with. You’ve heard them. But how many of them actually do something about it? Not many. Instead of just talk, Do something.

Here’s how.

The American system of government allows citizens and their representatives to change the law and create new laws through the legislative process. If you speak out, they will listen. Even if you are not old enough to vote, you can change a law.

To find the right legislators

Tell them why

You think that your household pets have more value to you than your - BLANK -  Be creative. Funny is OK.
Name anything else that is your property. For instance: a car battery, a table lamp, a toilet, a hole puncher.

In most states, pets are considered your property, and so their only value is the price you paid for them. No matter how much you love them or considered them a part of you family - they are just property.

In Texas, this was decided in the year 1891. There has been a huge shift in Americans’ relationships to household pets .The pet product & service industries are more profitable than the Infant product industry. Human products are overseen by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. Why not pets? I haven’t seen a dog driving himself to the store or the salon lately. Have you? Humans are the ones that buy these products and services. It’s time for a change.

Use your voice. Write to them, snail mail, email, call them, but most importantly, SPEAK UP! It is your right as an American citizen to do so.
If you are at a loss for words, here is an example. Feel free to cut and paste it into your correspondence. Don’t forget to pass it forward. Steer your friends to PetsNotProperty.org
